Mr. James Sewell is a specialist Urological Surgeon. He is committed to providing the highest quality care to his patients through an empathetic approach, using the latest scientific research and surgical techniques. He enjoys taking the time to explain conditions and surgeries to patients and their families in a way that is comprehensive but easy to understand.

James gained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2012 and spent time at the University of Cambridge in England undertaking research into prostate cancer. Following his internship at Royal Melbourne Hospital, he trained in various hospitals around metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, as well as a year of General Surgery at Royal Darwin Hospital in the Northern Territory. His specialist Urology training involved rotation through various hospitals around Melbourne.

He trained in the advanced use of the surgical robot for minimally invasive surgical management of urological conditions over two years at Barwon Health, as well as undertaking further training in laparoscopic and robotic surgery in Strasbourg, France.

James has published widely in the scientific literature and has ongoing research interests in urological cancers. He has presented his work locally and internationally. He teaches courses for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a valued mentor to junior surgical doctors. He passes on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of urologists through his activities training urology registrars.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys and is an avid tennis player and bushwalker.
